If you picture Aberdeen and think of sleet whipping down granite side streets and oil ships clanking in the harbour, you’re only seeing part of the picture. The people here are as warm as any other (they kind of have to be, given the climate). There’s an ardent passion for craft beer, great music and incredible food in Aberdeen – and its people have given us amazing support since day one.

So today, we are giving something back.

From 12pm today, our latest bar opens its doors – BrewDog Castlegate has arrived.

Named after the east end of Union Street, where the central thoroughfare flicks northward and begins the long route that leads to Ellon, Fraserburgh and beyond – Aberdeen’s historic heart is a perfect name for our second bar in the city. A stone’s throw from the Mercat Cross, we have taken on and renovated an old Aberdonian institution – the Athenaeum.

Our fans in Aberdeen have long asked us if we could convert this building into a BrewDog bar – and we are psyched that we have been able to make it happen. It took some time to acquire and plan, as we wanted to do the building and its reputation justice. Nothing less than the best would do; for them and for the city. So, we have 16 lines of the freshest craft beer around, showcasing the skill of our amazing brewteam and that of invited guest breweries from around the world.

For those on the move, our Castlegate bar also comes with a dedicated BottleDog attached, with hundreds of takeaway beery offerings. The bar also majors in speciality coffee and has an extensive food menu served throughout the day - our kitchen team will be rocking out a range of amazing melts, hot dogs, global sharing plates and more!

But that’s not all. Furthermore, we are rocking the foundations of the Granite City with the revival of another location with fond memories for the people of Aberdeen – and we are adding our BrewDog spin at the same time. Downstairs at Castlegate, a basement bar majoring in the twin passions of amazing music and incredible craft beer.

UnderDog is re-born, as a new type of club for our favourite city. Open to 2am every night, and 3am at weekends, we thought long and hard about what to do with this fantastic space underneath BrewDog Castlegate. In the end, we decided to give people exactly what they wanted – ever-changing music, live acts and club nights, all paired with a dozen craft beers. Sound good?

Our history is written on the streets of our hometown. And BrewDog Castlegate is the next chapter…
