Despite it only being the third week of the year, we are proudly rolling out our second beer launch of 2018 – and for everyone who loves dark beers we have a couple of awesome choices for you. These are the months when malt takes centre stage and we are bringing the baseline back thanks to a colossal collaboration with Sweden’s finest. Plus we welcome the return of our idiosyncratic black lager as the first BrewDog seasonal release of 2018.

First up is the super-limited edition result of our second partnership with the mighty Omnipollo. When Henok Fentie made the long journey from Sweden to Aberdeenshire back in October 2016 we brewed two beers – the first of which was Flat Pack Fruit Bat, a raspberry smoothie IPA. The second however was locked away in barrels until the time was right. Well, the time is right.

We are psyched to be launching I Wanna Be Your Dog; a 12% ABV pecan pie and vanilla imperial stout that has spent all of that time in whisky casks. The barrel-ageing has unleashed a huge new addition to the pecan mud pie beer Henok envisaged that October day two years ago. It truly is a dessert in a glass – rich caramel, ganache, vanilla custard. All are present in this electrifyingly rewarding beer; one for the fireside armchair and flickering embers.

The other release breaking cover today is similarly one for these cold, dark times – our interpretation of the classic Czech-style black lagers and German Schwarzbier that nurse many a European beer fan through to lighter evenings and warmer times. Zeitgeist majors in the dry bitterness of a continental lager but with dark malt on hand to give a buttress of roasty flavour.

Zeitgeist is brewed with Pilsner and Munich malt – the two titans of German brewing – along with Pale malt, Cara and Carafa to yield the dark colouration and darker flavours. Hopped with Cascade to add a balance of citrus, it nevertheless leads with malt and is a classically drinkable winter seasonal. Layered with bitter chocolate, fresh coffee and roasted malt flavour Zeitgeist is the ideal way to beat back the January blues.

Zeitgeist kicks off our 2018 seasonals and is available to buy in 330ml cans and 660ml bottles in our online shop now. Both it and I Wanna Be Your Dog will also be launching on draft across our network of UK BrewDog bars from 6pm tonight, Thursday 18th January.
