They can be sessionable, opaque as a New England chowder or swirled through with glitter, but however they come, the definitive style of craft beer has to be the India Pale Ale. So many have changed our drinking habits (and continue to do so) that this flagship beer of a movement deserves its own celebratory day. Fortunately such a day does exist – Thursday 2nd August is National IPA Day – and we are getting down in the only way we know.

Our UK Bars are showcasing amazing IPA fresh from the US of A. From a single source. Introducing the 18th Street Brewery.

This Thursday, kick back with one hop-charged beer after another from this barnstorming Midwestern brewpub. Their first ever beer was a Double IPA, and frankly they haven’t looked back. Each and every UK BrewDog Bar will have multiple kegs pouring of 18th Street’s wares; we have cold-chained three different DIPAs, four different IPAs, a saison and rye pale ale (because why not) and the mighty Nubian Overlord Triple IPA. All rarely (if ever) seen in the UK before.

18th Street is the brainchild of a single man, ex-homebrewer Drew Fox. He was staying at a Belgian Youth Hostel on holiday – sorry, vacation – when he decided to try a local wheat beer they had on tap. It changed his life, as on returning to his home in Chicago he continually failed to find beer like it. So he brewed his own. A wildly overfunded Kickstarter campaign led to a brewery taproom and the rest is history. The hops won out.

Drew’s beer range varies from sours to lagers to imperial milk stouts, but it is his IPAs that truly reflect the man. We are psyched to be able to bring them over, both kegged and canned for our bars (the latter in their typically amazing artwork). Look out for the 6.3% ABV Here Comes the Reaper IPA and the mighty 7.7% ABV grapefruit DIPA Rise of the Angels. We also have an unfiltered session IPA brewed with oats and milk sugars – the 5.5% ABV Candi Crushable.

Each of our Bars in the same city will have a different selection, so you can head between them to find something new from this awesome brewery. The 18th Street beers will be pouring from our UK Bars at 6pm this Thursday, August 2nd. Pledge allegiance to hops on IPA Day and celebrate with a new beer or two. And if there are any other hop-forward US breweries you’d love to see us showcase, let us know in the comments below!

Andy - I feel your pain Andy but we like to have it at 6 to make an event out of it; our crew or the brewers (if it's a takeover) can give a speech and then the beers pour. From opening wouldn't have the same emphasis - also it means the beers will still be on at that time. I take your point though, it's not perfect for everyone

Why is it always 6pm?!? Why not put them on from opening time? I need to head back home (and drive) after work but can much more easily nip in to Clerkenwell for a cheeky lunchtime beverage, and I work from home on Friday, so I'll just have to hope there's something left by Monday lunchtime :(

Never heard of them but that makes it all the more intriguing I guess
