When it all comes down to it, why do we actually drink beer? What’s the over-riding reason behind heading out to your local BrewDog bar, or reaching past that jar of furry pesto for your last can of Dead Pony in the fridge? Well, it’s because of one very simple fact. Drinking beer is enjoyable.

So when you do go to one of our network of bars, we obviously want to make your beery experience there as enjoyable as possible. Whether its music, food or our attentive staff, we pull out all the stops to ensure the things you’ll be drinking will be enjoyed in the best way possible.

And one of the most important of all components, in that regard? The glassware.

Yes, using the correct glass can really bring your beer to life. Or more accurately, using the wrong glass will leave it muted, both in terms of aroma and flavour. That’s why we have just introduced a very cool item of beer-related enjoyment – our brand new Jack Hammer IPA glass.

Whenever you order a schooner of our ruthlessly resinous India Pale Ale in our UK bars, it will now arrive in this ultimate receptacle. We have worked with German glass-masters Spiegelau to adapt their Dogfish Head/Sierra Nevada IPA glass for the UK market, exclusively for Jack Hammer.

Designed to highlight the specific aromas of hop-forward beers, the glass has a wide, fluted bowl to maximise the piney hopload absorbed with each sniff (or mightily eager lungful). It also has an extra-thin rim, room for the head to expand and, oh yes, those ribs on the base.

Difficult to miss, the chunky hoops help preserve the head of the beer, by reforming it when the beer swirls each time a sip is taken. Clever, eh? So right until the point you order another, your Jack Hammer will have the same taste and mouthfeel.

The Jack Hammer IPA glass is available for purchase right now, here in our online shop. This means that you can carry out experiments at home about what lifts the flavour and aromatic profiles of our 7.2% IPA more; our Spiegelau glass or your favourite coffee mug.

After all, it’s not just beer that is made more enjoyable by the correct vessel…

OK thanks for the reply, I'll probably get one to go with my Sierra Nevada one then

Schooner size? So this one is smaller than the "IPA is Dead" version?
Now I really want a couple! :)

Iddy/Dipak - We have commissioned the glass at a schooner size, so although it works to a similar design, it is 2/3rds measure (given that Jack Hammer is 7.2%)

I can't see how this is different to the Sierra Nevada one?

The Spiegelau glasses make a big difference, but am curious to know exactly how was this adapted for the UK market???

Luc - stay tuned on that front!

Pete - I bet the old boots 'heighten the aroma' as well...

Those glasses *are* awesome, as long as you don't look at them too hard, then they smash into a thousand tiny pieces.

Not convinced by this one.
Jackhammer tastes so good, I would happily (hoppily) enjoy drinking it out of one of my old boots !

Obviously, not the one with the hole in it .....

Easier to hold onto as well!! Is that another reason for the grippy hoopy things?
