BEATNIK BREW DAY 2017

BEATNIK BREW DAY 2017

“I've been an Equity Punk since the day EFPIII launched, but this is the first time I've been to the Beatnik Day, and I've really been missing out!” – Chris, Equity Punk.

Last weekend we again welcomed hundreds of our rock and roll shareholders to Ellon for the annual Beatnik Brewing Collective Day. If you think of our Punk AGM as a party (which it very much is) then the Beatnik Brew Day would be the Backstage Pass; Equity Punks are invited behind the scenes to meet the BrewDog crew, tour our brewery and score sneak tasters of upcoming brews. And we even arrange for the sun to make an appearance on the day as well.

So let’s relive the access all areas highlights of Beatnik Brew Day 2017!

As our army of assembled Equity Punks wandered through our original and new brewhouses, beer in hand, discussion turned towards this year’s Beatnik Brewing Collective release. Following week-long deliberations our shareholders had decided upon a 70 IBU German-hopped blonde export stout, and we loved giving our VIP EFP’s a chance to get up close and personal with the brewery where it was being created – and as a super-exclusive spin-off, the LoneWolf distillery!

”The LoneWolf section of the day was amazing, from being given an in depth tour of the equipment and processes used in the distillation to being served my very own LoneWolf G&T, made by the head distiller himself Steven Kersley.” – Ross, Equity Punk.

We truly believe that giving the people who enjoy what you do the opportunity to see where it all happens and meet the team responsible is a no-brainer. That’s why events like the annual Beatnik Brew Day are right at the top of our list of things we love. And for over 400 of our Equity Punks to take time out of their weekends to make it up to Ellon is proof (if any were needed) that our amazing shareholders have our backs every step of the way.

So aside from the Wonka-esque craziness of our brewery, our Equity Punks had the chance to question our captain James at a Q&A and beer tasting – and catch up on just how we intend to rock the rest of 2017 and beyond. They also had the opportunity to shoot the breeze with Richard Kilcullen and tour the BrewDog Overworks, our bespoke sour beer facility taking shape across the road from our Ellon brewery (with samples, naturally).

“I can't wait for next year when the Overworks are up and running. Brewmaster Richard's passion is infectious and I predict he'll do some amazing things. It's great to have another excuse to tour the brewery, but the Beatnik highlight for me was speaking face to face with the team new and old, sharing a beer, a burger and even a high-five from James.” – Chris, Equity Punk.

In between all the talking (and the high-fiving), the assembled Equity Punks enjoyed beers pouring from Truck Norris, including brand new releases Hazy Jane and AB22 (plus some rare barrel-aged exclusives) and a range of local food. We even managed to raise a truly fantastic £2,850 for Guide Dogs for the Blind, so thank you to everyone who donated!

That thanks is extended to everyone who came up for our 2017 Beatnik Brew Day, it was amazing to see and speak to you all, and we hope you had a brilliant time of it in Ellon (and later in our Aberdeen bars). We’ll leave you with words from Equity Punk Geoff, who summed up the day better than we ever could.

“It was great to meet fellow Equity Punks, share a few beers and have a good laugh together - it really is true that good people drink good beer. The scale of the brewery is stunning - it's hard to believe that all this has been achieved in just 10 years. Yet it still feels like a family outfit - all the staff seemed so happy and helpful - obviously proud of their contribution to the BrewDog success story. Getting to walk behind the scenes, in the offices as well as on the brewery floor, gave a special insight into the heart of BrewDog.”

How do you get an invite if you are a shareholder?

Highlight for me was the Overworks presentation (it wasn't really a tour) with Richard. This guy is insanely passionate about what he does. He's genuinely excited about the sour beer journey with Brewdog he is about to embark on. It's just a shame that some of this beer will take quite some time before it can be released.
Then again "good things come to those who wait"

Actually persuaded Anne, my wife, to join my son and his wife on a delightful afternoon. Anne was really impressed with the LONE WOLF setup, just as I have been with the Brewery set up over the years. Thanks to all who worked so hard to create yet another memorable experience. Ray

I had an absolute blast, the Calista Rye IPA and Gin Blitz were highlights and it was brilliant to see and talk to the staff first hand. Thanks to all of them who gave up their weekend to host us!
