One of the pillars of craft beer is the concept that freshness is all-important. We talk about that a lot here at BrewDog, because unless you are ageing that imperial stout or barley wine the hard work of the brewer can only fade with time. Today, we are releasing a pair of beers that perfectly summarise this ideal – one that defines the current season and the other that will only exist for just over a month. And then it will be gone.

Our ticking time bomb returns. Born to Die is a terminally hoppy Imperial India Pale Ale that embraces brewhouse techniques designed to pass on the glory of the hop to you, before it is too late. It is even more judiciously whirlpool and dry-hopped than the majority of our beers (which is saying something) so that the fragile hop oils released by the huge amounts of Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe and Amarillo are harnessed and contained within the can, rather than being boiled away and lost.

This is a deliberate irony as Born to Die is itself created to be lost – its shelf life is a mere 35 days – the Best Before date worn on the front of the can as a badge of honour rather than being hidden away near a barcode. The very thing that makes it great – the intense citrus peel, pine and cut grass hop notes – are volatile and decline in their presence over time. The limited window allows you to drink Born to Die as fresh as possible and enjoy IPA as it should be – at its flavourful and aromatic peak.

Our enigmatic seasonal hybrid also returns today, and for 2018 we have given Electric India a reboot. Embracing the spicy notes of a Belgian saison combined with punchy new world hops from America, we have switched things up by also introducing classic European hops. Alongside Columbus, Electric India now rocks Mittelfrüh, Mandarina Bavaria and Hallertauer Blanc, with the last of these added at the dry-hop stage in a first for our crossover saison.

This tweak is a rejuvenation that steers the beer closer to the original, created by our legion of shareholders at an Equity Punk brewday in 2013. It is now a meeting of a trio of formative brewing worlds and newly balanced, fusing the dry spice of a classic saison with citrus, pine and passion fruit from the hops. The saison yeast delivers a peppery edge that cuts through the tropical notes and delivers a beer perfect for the waning days of summer.

Born to Die 13.09.2018 and Electric India are both live in our online shop right now and will be hitting our UK bars on draft from 6pm tonight, Thursday 9th August.
