SAY HI TO OUR PEOPLE TEAM

‘Beer People are Good People’ goes the saying, but that doesn’t really stack up on its own. In order for this to be true you need another set of People, behind the Beer People. An amazing crew already in the building to find, train and support them. Our intrepid experts in all things BrewDog are the guardians of our culture; without the right pieces in place, none of us could get things done. We all rely on the People Team. So let’s meet a few of them!

And if you’d like to join them on the BrewDog crew, check out our vacancies here.

Nicolle Sinclair Head of Global Recruitment

Speaking of culture guardians, Nicolle is the person who built that team as part of her role to ensure every person who joins BrewDog fits our crew and shares the same drive. Nicolle joined us three years ago but already has seen huge changes. “I started as the only recruiter for roles based in the UK; I now head up a team of 6 with a global remit,” she says. “My role has grown A LOT but I love the challenge and the fact that every day is different!”

But what do those days consist of? “Typically I speak to phenomenal people both internally and externally to ensure that every crew member who joins BrewDog is here to join us on our mission to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are.” Crucially we don’t just employ diehard craft beer fanatics. “You could be a geek who loves to learn, or a total foodie who loves flavours! We add people to our crew who have all levels of beer knowledge!”

Ned Clarke Learning & Development Manager

With that last point in mind, although you have to love great beer to work at BrewDog, we pride ourselves in instilling the passion in people to truly obsess over it. And one of the guys at the forefront of that is Ned. You only have to ask his biggest achievement since joining BrewDog. “Helping open the last twenty-four bars in a row by inducting and training over 350 people.” When it comes to dialling in our amazing bar crews, the person behind those people is our Ned.

But how did he get into beer? “I used to run pubs in Bristol,” he says. “One day I ordered too much BrewDog beer and had to sell it to my landlord pals. I ended up being a mini distributor and so when BrewDog opened a bar in Bristol I was all over it.” Ned joined our fledgling crew there as Assistant Manager and ended up working his way to managing the entirety of our learning and development operations within two years. “It was all very quick and exciting,” he says with characteristic understatement.

Fiona Hunter Head of People

Unlike Ned, Fiona had never worked in beer before she joined BrewDog – but she did share his obsession for all things beer-related. A card-carrying Equity Punk, she worked in Human Resources for a casino company – “When the opportunity came along to do something similar with BrewDog Bars, I jumped at it,” she says, as it was her dream job. This is something we still hear a lot when prospective BrewDog crewmembers arrive at Ellon and it is awesome. Love hops and live the dream!

Fiona is our Head of People – and like the other guys in this post is proof that talent and dedication is rewarded at BrewDog; from working for the bars team she was promoted to Head of People within a year of her joining the company. “I’ve learned more and had opportunities to get involved in things over the last 18 months than I could have ever hoped I would get the chance to do over my entire career!” she says. No looking back at her previous career in the casino industry then!

Cameron Robertson Head of Engagement

Cam first joined BrewDog as an Equity Punk volunteer, swiftly becoming the first Bloodhound on our roster – before actually joining that roster as a permanent addition to the BrewDog crew. “As the Commander in Chief of the Equity Punk Army, my life revolves around delivering what we say we will for our Equity Punks,” he says. “BrewDog wouldn’t exist without their passion, enthusiasm and commitment.”

Those last three nouns can all be applied to Cam himself, a within three months of become a full-time BrewDog employee he helped launch the charity component of our Unicorn Fund, where our crewmembers and Equity Punks nominate where 10% of our annual proceeds will be donated. As he summarises – “At BrewDog we DO stuff, and don’t just talk about doing stuff which is one of the biggest positives for me compared to previous roles.”

Tessa Armstrong Production People Guardian

Like many of our people, Tessa joined us from one of the main industries in north-eastern Scotland – Oil & Gas. There she worked as a training advisor helping graduate engineers – so had a perfect ready-made set of skills she could transfer into craft beer. When coupled with a background working at the Aberdeen Beer Festival, it meant Tessa was a natural fit for BrewDog as Production People Guardian. But what in turn does that mean? We’ll let her explain:

“It’s my job to look after everyone in the production teams, including OverWorks and LoneWolf,” she says. “I started this role in January, and my main focus at the moment is really getting to grips with how the production part of the business operates and getting to speak to as many of our crew as possible!” Our People guys aren’t just desk jockeys; we love the fact that they spent much of their time talking face to face with everyone in our company.

Andrew Marrins Head of Learning & Development

Finally when it comes to that face to face, Andrew has met more people at BrewDog than pretty much anyone else. “I’m here to deliver a Learning and Development plan that will touch everyone in some shape or form, to enable our crew to grow as we grow,” he says, indicating that as it should be, the people delivering development to a business are the ones on the frontlines, making sure everyone is included and reaching their potential.

“No two days are the same and they never will be,” he continues. “I have a huge level of responsibility but one that comes with the autonomy to crack on and deliver.” This is another tenet of working for BrewDog – if you can get on and get things done, you will get the support you need to make it happen. Andrew’s go-to beer is Jet Black Heart and with the amount of work he puts in making people as good as they can be, he certainly earns his post-work pint.

It takes a lot of different people to work in our People Team. If you’d like to have them aid your career, you can check out the current list of BrewDog vacancies right here. If you’re keen to work with us, it could be the best click of a link you ever make!
