Just over a month ago we opened the doors to BrewDog Angel and whilst our latest BrewDog Bar rocks everything you’d expect, it also has a very special additional feature. You can hire one of four 20L homebrew kits to take for a test drive and brew anything you like. If you live in London and want to take your adventures in homebrewing to the next level (one surrounded by freshly-poured craft beer and pizza) then BrewDog Angel is the new homebrewing hub for the capital.

But don’t take our word for it – check out some of the people-powered brews that have hit the tanks already.

Normally when we talk about guest beer we mean those from other breweries we know and love – but at BrewDog Angel the phrase takes on a whole other connotation. Walk-in wiz-kids have been hard at work since the bar opened – in fact, even before it opened. BrewDog Equity Punks get free preview nights of our new bars (just one of the benefits of being a shareholder) so they put their collective heads together on a mini Beatnik Equity Punk homebrew special!

The kits for hire at Angel aren’t just for those who already know their Munich Malt from their Vienna – we encourage anyone who has ever wondered about making beer to pitch up, mash in and have a go. Our Angel team led by GM Ellery are on hand to give detailed instruction and to steer newcomers away from the curveballs homebrewing can often throw. We also have a mini library of beer books to thumb through and increase that knowledge (or board games for the carefree).

Beer fans who have been through the doors already have put their hands to a wide range of different brews, majoring on the pale and refreshing in this incredible weather. We have seen brewed, bottled and taken home the likes of a Jalapeño and Lime White IPA, a Mango East Coast IPA and a classic Elvis Hammer mashup. The style brewed most often? Take a (summertime) bow, Passionfruit New England IPA.

Our crew at Angel are all homebrew nuts – the better to pass on what they have learned – and have also been turning their hand to such incredible wonders as a 13.2% Coffee Imperial Stout and a Scotch Bonnet Chili DIPA. Plus our epic staff created the most epic breakfast beer ever – a Maple, Walnut and Bacon Sweet Oat Stout. So if you hire a kit and need inspiration, just ask!

BrewDog Angel is located at 21 - 31 Essex Rd (N1 2SA) and is less than ten minutes’ walk from the tube station of the same name. A stone’s throw from Islington Green it is right in the hustle and bustle of the Upper Street/Essex Road confluence of shops and restaurants. Open 12pm to 11pm every day of the week the 14 taps of craft beer and pizza oven await, whether you are hitting the homebrew kits or not.
