MulDog
Winter times = hot beers
We recently shook things up and served it over ice with our #MixDog challenge – an attempt to defy convention and create an allstar line-up of beer cocktails with your help.
In short, you came and you conquered, helping us to craft some of the most challenging and awesome beer cocktails known to man, woman or dog.
Now with the nights drawing in and the long johns temporarily out of retirement, we’ve turned our attention to combinations that combat the big freeze.
Cue mulled beer.
Warming, tasty and perfect for thawing your chilly bits, cancel the mulled wine and get raiding your cupboards to make your very own muldogs…
5am Saint Nicholas
The perfect – dare we say it – Christmas warmer; get your paws on a bottle of 5am Saint plus honey, nutmeg, brown sugar, orange, cinnamon and an egg yolk. Pour the beer into a soup pan and heat gently until the liquid starts to bubble.
Watch out you don’t overheat the beer, this will burn off the alcohol! Add the beaten yolk followed by nutmeg and brown sugar to taste. Stir thoroughly and serve in a tall glass or mug garnished with a slice of fresh orange and a sprinkling of cinnamon.
Winter Paradox
Amplify whisky’s warming powers by blending a bottle of cask matured Paradox with one shot of rum. Over a gentle heat, melt half a stick of unsalted butter plus allspice and brown sugar to taste. Add the paradox and rum combination to the pan and heat until the mixture develops a slight foam. Serve in a mug, garnished with star anise then drink by an open fire whilst wearing questionable knitwear and an air on nonchalance.
Alice Get The Heating On
A darker concoction that harks back to frosty London streets and cosy candlelit pubs, unleash a bottle of Alice Porter on a soup pot. Stir in a shot of vodka or gin then sweeten with brown sugar and a sprinkling of cinnamon. Expect lots of vanilla and toffee notes with a creamy top. Serve in a tall glass accompanied by a homemade, oven fresh chocolate brownie.
